Dustin Donley founded Legacy Clothiers on the concept that a well-tailored, custom garment could be made available to a larger clientele at a more affordable price point.

Mr. Donley first entered the clothing business in high school when he began working in his uncle’s Men’s store. He has always enjoyed dressing well - even in high school, when dressing well wasn’t considered “cool.”

After graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1993, Mr. Donley moved to Dallas where he began his sales career in the telecom industry (after a disastrous attempt at professional golf). He enjoyed some success during the 1990’s while the Y2K issue made selling replacement systems relatively easy. Dustin didn’t realize, until his sales began to slow, that he didn’t have a strong interest in his product. He knew it was time for a change; he wanted to remain in direct sales, but also knew that he needed to sell something that he had a true passion for.

Mr. Donley decided to go back to his roots and returned to the clothing business. Lacking the money to open his own store, he first took a job with the Tom James Company and later accepted a position with Edward Baumann Clothiers, both located in Dallas. The time Dustin spent at these companies did two things to change his thinking about the industry. First, he realized that that he had a passion not just to sell clothing, but for the opportunity to become a part of his client’s lives - both professionally and personally. Secondly, he realized that there were certain segments of the population that these companies were unable to serve.

The first client segment that Mr. Donley felt was being underserved is the individual who appreciates nice garments, but doesn’t want to pay an arm-and-a-leg for them. The second segment is the client who doesn’t fit into an off-the-rack-suit without having to take it to a tailor. Frustrated that these individuals had to be willing to pay close to $1,000 for a well-tailored, custom garment, Mr. Donley set out to find a way to provide his clients with the same high quality, custom fit at an affordable price. It was on this simple concept that the birth of Legacy Clothiers was founded.
